About J Worthington Watercolors
Born and raised in rural Iowa, I have long enjoyed the beauty, tranquility, and peaceful landscape that the Midwest offers. Now residing in suburban Chicago area, I now benefit from the contrast of the suburban area, the rural farm country and our busy and exciting Chicago.
My journey as an artist has come full circle, and I am grateful to be at this point in my artistic travels. During my childhood, I enjoyed drawing, and took every class offered at our small art league from printmaking to ceramics. I occasionally dabbled with watercolor and acrylics, but enjoyed the loose freedom offered by watercolor the most.
I found myself pursuing commercial art and I graduated in 1979 with a BA from the Iowa State College of Design and later attended classes at Chicago’s American Academy of Art. However, other than the occasional commission, I followed job opportunities and eventually ended up as an employee benefit consultant. I had temporarily left the world of art. Now, I'm back! And I love every minute of it.
My watercolor paintings rejuvenate me. If time passes and I have been unable to create, I loose my joy and only am able to find it once I put brush and paint to paper. I am truly fortunate to be able to once again loose myself in the joy of color. Having returned to this path, I find my work more colorful, exciting and loose than it was years ago.
I hope you enjoy my work and the journey that brought me here.
